Three books. Three weeks. I flew through each of these books for very different reasons, and now, they’re available for you to devour, too.
1. The Other Side of the Straitjacket by Alicia Duncan.
If you are in a book club that reads across genres, I promise you - if this title is your next pick, you will be responsible for one of the most lively conversations of the year.
Here’s a question to get you started:
If your mom chose Medical Assistance in Dying before she was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, what would you do?
Alicia’s book made me think differently about systems, about people who stand up in rooms when they’re not ready for you, and what I thought I knew about what it meant to have a peaceful passing.
Her book launches this week and is the first book about MAiD to be published from a family member’s perspective. And, if you like to be first at things (like I do), go and get it today.
Buy it from your favourite bookstore, here.
2. 2 Things to Do Today by Ben Gufstason
Feeling overwhelmed? Buy this book.
Need a quick read, but want to make it ‘good for you’? Buy this book.
Are you in a career that helps others? Buy this book for your colleagues, clients and clinics.
Ben’s book is like Atomic Habits and The Body Keeps Score had a 2026 baby.
It’s hiding veggies in chocolate.
It’s simple. The layout is tastefully and strategically simple (well done design team) and the content is, as the author says, “Healing without the hustle.”
And, as Gold Medalist Ashleigh McIver said, “The most impactful lessons I learned on my journey to Olympic gold weren’t complicated—and this book beautifully captures the power of simple daily practices to create lasting change.”
Order 2 Things to Do Today, anywhere.
3. Shadows of the Nightwood by Harper Isles.
I am new to the Romantasy genre. I’m so new that this is the second book I’ve read start to finish.
Admittedly, our team started reading their copies before I did and I felt really left out. So, I moved it to the top of my TBR pile and while this genre gives more fall than it does August, dockside - I really enjoyed it. Really.
Harper is a debut author and you’d never know it based on this book. She and the editorial team did a page-turner job on this title and I hope our enjoyment of her writing fuels her fire to write more, and soon.
Grab your ebook copy here. Or your paperback, here.
On a professional note, these books are all SO well done.
On a personal note, these authors are kind and generous and people who support other authors’ books knowing it doesn’t dim their own light, but makes life brighter for everyone.
I hope these three titles make it into your bag this week.
Megan
